Report on Proposals Toward Development of 2024 UPC and UMC Now Available for Online Download

The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials® (IAPMO), developer of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC®), has posted online the 2021 Report on Proposals (ROP) for the 2024 editions of these seven-time American National Standard-designated model codes.

No hardcopy editions of these publications will be printed or distributed. Interested parties are encouraged to download the documents at the following links:

    Uniform Plumbing Code

    Uniform Mechanical Code

IAPMO will begin the call for comments on these documents on Sept. 10. All suggested code amendments/additions/deletions published in the ROP will be available for public review and no comments will be accepted after the 5 p.m. PST deadline of Jan. 4, 2022.

Eligible IAPMO members in attendance during the UPC and UMC Assembly Consideration Session in September will have the opportunity to vote on an Assembly Comment. This session will be virtual via Zoom at IAPMO’s 92nd annual Education and Business Conference, Sept. 28. This session is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. PDT.

Anyone can participate in the virtual UPC and UMC Assembly Consideration Session by selecting this LINK. After registering, prospective participants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

IAPMO employs a consensus development process accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), gathering the largest assembly of plumbing and mechanical experts in the world at its annual education and business conference and technical committee meetings, enabling anyone — members and non-members alike — to propose changes to the code.

IAPMO urges its members and other interested parties to get involved in the code development process to ensure effectiveness in preserving the public health, safety and welfare. Installers, plumbing and mechanical officials, the construction industry, engineers and manufacturers all benefit from a cooperative effort in developing codes.

For questions about submitting comments for the UPC, contact Enrique Gonzalez, at (909) 230-5535 or enrique.gonzalez@iapmo.org. For questions about submitting comments for the UMC, contact Zalmie Hussein, at (909) 218-8122 or zalmie.hussein@iapmo.org.
