Tuban, East Java, Indonesia – PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia on Tuesday officially inaugurated the renovated sanitary facilities at Salafiyah Kholidiyah Islamic Boarding School in Plumpang, Tuban, East Java, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to improve hygiene and public health in educational institutions.
The project involved a complete overhaul of the school’s previously deteriorating sanitation infrastructure, which included poor hygiene conditions and broken toilets. Renovations featured the installation of new toilets, taps, handwashing stations, and an upgraded waste disposal system to provide students with clean, functional, and environmentally friendly facilities.
This initiative is part of PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia’s broader commitment to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs, with a focus on increasing access to proper sanitation in schools. The aim is to reduce the risk of disease, encourage clean living habits, and support student well-being.
"This activity is part of PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia's commitment to realizing a healthier society and a more proper environment, one of which is in the education sector, such as Islamic boarding schools,” said Shirley Dewi, senior vice president of PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia. “We realize that clean toilets and proper sanitary systems are not just technical facilities, but are fundamental elements in maintaining the health and quality of life of students who are studying."
The inauguration ceremony was opened with remarks by Dr. Muhammad A.S. Hikam, MA, chair of the Board of Trustees of the Salafiyah Kholidiyah Foundation; Donny Purnomo JE, ST, main secretary of the National Standardization Agency; and Dewi. The event also featured a hygiene education session led by Muhajir Asrori, chair of the National Plumbing Association (APIN), which included handwashing demonstrations and guidance on maintaining clean toilet facilities.
According to data from UNICEF and the World Health Organization, more than 40% of schools in developing countries lack adequate toilet and handwashing facilities — conditions that can lead to serious health issues among students. PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia’s project addresses these challenges head-on by fostering sustainable sanitation solutions within the school community.
Comments from participants at the inaugural event:
“I really appreciate PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia, especially with the CSR program that targets the community that really needs it, namely Islamic boarding schools, which based on various studies still have weaknesses in terms of limited infrastructure supporting cleanliness, health, and availability of clean water that meets the required standards. I hope that the sanitation model in the Salafiyah Kholidiyah Islamic Boarding School environment will be a model that can be used as a reference and applied in other Islamic boarding schools.” – Dr. Muhammad AS Hikam. MA, chair of the Board of Trustees of the Salafiyah Kholidiyah Plumpang Foundation.
“The sanitation facilities built in the Salafiyah Kholidiyah Plumpang Islamic Boarding School environment through the CSR program of PT IAPMO Group Indonesia have referred to the Indonesian National Standard, especially the use of SNI-certified sanitary equipment. We hope that this facility can be utilized optimally, with good management so that it has a longer useful life and improves the quality of life of the students and all the community members in it.” – Donny Purnomo JE, ST., main secretary of the National Standardization Agency
“This assistance for renovating toilet facilities is an education on the importance of implementing a proper plumbing system, toilet operation and maintenance as part of the plumbing system. Maintenance of plumbing equipment and maintaining toilet cleanliness will improve health and hopefully have an impact on improving the achievements of the students.” – Muhajir Asrori, chair of the National Plumbing Association (APIN)

PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia is part of the IAPMO Group, an international organization headquartered in the United States that has almost 100 years of experience in developing standards, product certification, management system certification, technical training, and inspection in the sanitation, plumbing, clean water, and construction materials sectors. As a representative in Indonesia, PT. IAPMO Group Indonesia brings this global mission to the local level by presenting solutions that are not only technical and innovative, but also oriented toward sustainability and community empowerment. In carrying out its mission, IAPMO upholds the importance of implementing the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) as the main foundation in helping ensure public health and safety. The SNI standard is not only a technical reference, but is an essential protection tool so that the products and systems used (especially in vital sectors such as clean water, sanitation, and construction) meet the criteria for safety, hygiene, and proper quality. Without clear and consistent standards, the risk to public health and user safety becomes much greater, whether due to technical failure, water contamination, or building damage.
Based on the vision to create access to safe sanitation and clean water for all, IAPMO is actively involved in various social activities, public education, and cross-sector collaboration. IAPMO believes that access to proper sanitation is a basic right of every individual, and through structured CSR programs IAPMO strives to create a healthier, more inclusive, and more dignified environment for the people of Indonesia. IAPMO hopes that this activity can be a model of collaboration between the private sector and educational institutions in creating healthy and safe facilities.
