IAPMO Seeks Standards Committee Members for Development of National Standards for the United States and Canada

Ontario, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2022) — The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO®) is seeking committee members for the development of American National Standards and National Standards of Canada. IAPMO is seeking volunteers from a variety of interest categories to serve  on the following standards committee consensus bodies:

Building Standards Committee (BSC) — enforcing authorities, installer/maintainer, and user, including Canadian representation in the same interest categories.
Hydronics Standards Committee (HSC) — enforcing authorities, installer/maintainer, and research/standards/testing laboratory, including Canadian representation in the same interest categories.
ISO 30500 National Adoption Committee — consumer and installer/maintainer, including Canadian representation in the same interest categories.
Plumbing Standards Committee (PSC) — consumer, enforcing authorities, including Canadian
representation in the same interest categories.
Solar Standards Committee — consumer, research/standards/testing laboratory, and user, including Canadian representation in the same interest categories.

The IAPMO consensus bodies are responsible for the development of industry related standards and oversee the work of the technical subcommittees. The consensus bodies operate in accordance with IAPMO’s accredited procedures for standards development: IAPMO PP-1 (Policies and Procedures for Consensus Development of American National Standards ) and IAPMO PP-2 (Policies and Procedures for Development of National Standards of Canada)

Founded in 1926, IAPMO is a worldwide leader in protecting health and safety by producing codes and standards. For more than 30 years, IAPMO has developed American National Standards (ANS), initially as  the Secretariat for the ANSI Z124 Technical Committee in 1984, and since 2005 independently under its own American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited standards development procedures. In 2018, IAPMO received accreditation through the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) for development of National Standards of Canada, thus accepting the responsibility for development of CAN/IAPMO designated standards.

Austin, Texas, Adopts 2024 Uniform Codes

The Austin, Texas, city council has formally adopted the 2024 editions of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC®) as the plumbing and mechanical codes of practice protecting the health and safety of the city’s nearly 1 million residents. The Texas state capital and 11th most populous city in the United States has utilized the Uniform Codes since 1974. 

Iowa Updates State Plumbing Code to 2024 UPC

The Iowa Public Health Department has updated Chapter 25 of the Iowa Administrative Code, “State Plumbing Code,” from the 2021 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®) to the 2024 edition. The update went into effect on March 26.
