PRESS RELEASE

ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 27000-2022 for Hybrid Fire Extinguishing Systems Personnel Now Available

ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 27000-2022 for Hybrid Fire Extinguishing Systems Personnel Now Available

The new ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 27000-2022, Professional Qualifications Standard for Hybrid Fire Extinguishing Systems Personnel, has been designated as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and is now available for purchase.

ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 27000 includes three standards, each of which establish minimum knowledge and performance criteria for those who have an active role in designing, installing, inspecting, testing and maintaining hybrid fire extinguishing systems. Personnel certified to the ASSE 27000 standard will have met the requirements of specialized education and training to NFPA Standard 770 for Hybrid (Water and Inert Gas) Fire-Extinguishing Systems.

“Special application hybrid fire extinguishing systems require specialized training to obtain the knowledge necessary to design, install, service and maintain,” said Ken Schneider, chairperson of the ASSE Series 27000 Working Group and training specialist for UA’s Education and Training Department. “In fire protection, you only have one chance to get it right — lives depend upon it! As such, ASSE created the ASSE 27000 standard series and certification program to help equip professionals working on these life safety systems with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure they function properly.”

ASSE 27010 (Installation) certification requires a minimum of five years of practical installation experience with fire protection suppression systems, the successful completion of a 40-hour training course, passing a 100-question written exam with a score of 80% or higher, and passing a practical exam. ASSE 27020 (Inspection, Testing and Maintenance (ITM)) certification requires a minimum of five years combined practical installation and ITM experience with fire protection suppression systems, the successful completion of a 20-hour training course, passing a 50-question written exam with a score of 80% or higher, and passing a practical exam. ASSE 27030 (Design) certification requires a minimum of five years of combined practical design and installation experience with fire protection suppression systems (or a current Fire Protection P.E. certification), the successful completion of a 40-hour training course and passing a 100-question written exam with a score of 80% or higher. All certifications are limited to the specific manufacturers’ systems to which the individual was trained and tested — separate training and testing must be completed for each system.

To purchase ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI 27000-2022, please visit the ASSE International Webstore at www.assewebstore.com. For questions regarding the standard, contact Marianne Waickman, ASSE director of Business Operations, at marianne.waickman@asse-plumbing.org or (708) 995-3015.
