ASSE International Publishes New Edition of Backflow Prevention Field Test Procedures Booklet

Mokena, Ill. — ASSE International has published the seventh edition of its Field Test Procedures Using Three-Valve and Five-Valve Test Kits booklet. Available in both hardcopy and digital versions, this easy-to-use booklet provides guides for testing ASSE 1013, Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow Prevention Assemblies (RP); ASSE 1015, Double Check Backflow Prevention Assemblies (DC); ASSE 1020, Pressure Vacuum Breaker Backflow Prevention Assemblies (PVB); and ASSE 1056, Spill Resistant Vacuum Breaker Backflow Prevention Assemblies (SRVB) using three-valve and five-valve test kits. The booklet also includes troubleshooting flowcharts and guides for backflow prevention assemblies. Featuring durable, waterproof paper, this conveniently sized pocket guide is a perfect on-site reference for backflow prevention assembly testers and other cross-connection control professionals.

“ASSE International strongly recommends that all ASSE 5110 certified backflow prevention assembly testers keep a copy of the Field Test Procedures Using Three-Valve and Five-Valve Test Kits booklet in their trucks, toolboxes, or on their phones,” said Marianne Waickman, ASSE International director of Operations. “Although ASSE 5110 certified testers must test backflow assemblies without the aid of reference materials during their practical exam, it is not uncommon for testers to come across an assembly in the field with which they are not familiar or have not tested in a long time. Having these procedures handy gives testers the opportunity to refresh their memories on procedures and reference the booklet's troubleshooting guides to help work out problems that may arise during the test.”

Changes found in this seventh edition were primarily made to clarify and standardize the procedures within the booklet and ensure that the procedures mirror the steps found in the ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI Series 5000-2022, Cross-Connection Control Professional Qualifications Standard. Test procedures in this edition have not changed; however, the wording of procedure steps and the presentation of troubleshooting flowcharts and guides were updated to make the procedures clearer to follow.
