Why The Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa And Hot Tub Code® Over the International Swimming Pool And Spa Code (ISPSC)?
The ISPSC was not developed via the ANSI consensus procedure.
The ISPSC does not address water quality and requires adoption of Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP) standards for water quality.
The ISPC does not contain provisions for mechanical ventilation or air quality.
The ISPSC is not a standalone code.
- The ISPSC directs the end user to the International Residential Code (IRC) for electrical provisions of aquatic facilities.
- The ISPSC requires that only the International Plumbing Code (IPC) be used for piping and fittings used for water service, makeup and drainage piping for pools and spas.
- The ISPSC requires that only the IPC or IRC be used for backflow prevention devices for the protection of potable water, and wastewater discharge.
- The ISPSC contains swimming pool Classifications A, B, C, D, E and F which are only in APSP standards. The categories are not used nation-wide which may cause confusion and conflict with other jurisdictions.
