An IAPMO certification is a significant professional accomplishment which is why it is critical you commit to continuous self-development by participating in Certification Renewal. You will expand your knowledge, validate your technical expertise, and realize personal satisfaction from the effort.
Certifications are valid for three years. Certifications must be renewed on or before the expiration date.
You can renew your certification up to 6 months ahead of your expiration date and have a 6 month grace period after your expiration date.

Certification Renewal Options
There are two options for renewing your certification. You can renew by taking a renewal exam OR submitting the appropriate amount of approved CEUS. Please click on the options below for more information.
Participate in career development activities provided by or recognized by IAPMO. A total of 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are needed to renew one certification. IAPMO has created a sliding scale for individuals who would like to renew more than one certification. If renewing two certifications, a total of 2.5 CEUs are required. For the renewal of three or more certifications, a combined total of 3.5 CEUs are needed.
All CEUs submitted must be relevant to your certification and must be approved by IAPMO after registration. All CEUs must be earned during the time period your certification is valid or within three years prior to the date of your renewal application. You must maintain a record of CEUs earned during this period and submit proof of documentation.

1 Details regarding date, topic, location, and training length must be provided by the candidate for processing and evaluation. IAPMO reserves the right to request more information from candidates for the purpose of evaluation. Uploading certificates of completion or other documentation is preferred to reduce the chances of an audit.
2 Candidate must provide the date and location of the code hearings attended.
3 IAPMO reserves the right to determine what it considers to be legitimate training providers. Candidates should provide a web address or other information that can be used for evaluation purposes.
4 All CEUs must be earned during the valid period of your certification or within three years from the date of your renewal or reinstatement application.

If you are seeking to renew one or more certification(s), you may take the renewal exam for each discipline to renew your certification(s). Each renewal exam consists of a 50-question open book exam based on the most current edition of the code and applicable standards and is taken online. To renew, individuals must pass the exam with a score of 70% or better. Only one certification can be renewed per renewal exam
