IAPMO is pleased to announce its SCC accreditation for Canada’s Energy Efficiency Verification program and is ready to help manufacturers meet new efficiency requirements for certain plumbing products entering the Canadian market.
Natural Resources Canada has amended Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations to add faucets and showerheads to the list of federally regulated product types. Beginning with products manufactured on or after July 1, 2026, affected faucets and showerheads must satisfy new energy efficiency requirements to be imported into Canada or shipped between provinces or territories.
The updated requirements apply to covered faucets, replacement aerators, metering faucets, and showerheads. To comply, products must meet applicable energy efficiency standards and bear an energy efficiency verification mark issued by an accredited certification body The required energy efficiency reports must also be filed through an electronic database.
Energy Efficiency Standards
Products must meet the applicable maximum water flow rates when tested in accordance with 10 C.F.R. Appendix S to Subpart B, Part 430 of Title 10 of the United States Code of Federal Regulations.

Energy Verification Mark
Applicable products must bear an energy efficiency verification mark. The mark can only be issued by a certification body accredited for the Energy Efficiency Verification by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC).
Reporting
Before products are imported for the first time, they must be reported using product-specific Energy Efficiency Report templates. Completed templates must be submitted via the Compliance Regulatory Energy Efficiency Database (CREED).

IAPMO® applauds the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) for its adoption of the 2024 Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC®) for applications regulated under the state's Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors program. The updated code is scheduled to become effective Sept. 1.
