IAPMO Seeks UMC Task Group Members

Ontario, Calif. — The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO®) is seeking applicants to serve as technical experts on Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC®) task groups. 

The UMC Technical Committee is seeking special subject experts to join the following task groups:

  • Code Change Review: The scope of the UMC Code Change Review Task Group includes the review of proposals submitted as published in the 2024 UMC Report on Proposals (ROP) monograph and develop public comments for the UMC Technical Committee consideration in the development of the 2027 edition of the UMC.
  • Heat Pump Water Heater: The UMC Heat Pump Water Heater Task Group will review UMC Item #162 as published in the 2024 UMC ROP monograph and develop recommendations addressing the proper installation of air-source heat pump water heaters. The recommendations will be forwarded to the UMC Technical Committee as public comment(s) for consideration in the development of the 2027 edition of the UMC.

Task group members will participate via conference call or web meeting, provide their perspective on the code, and assist in drafting recommendations for action by the UMC Technical Committee. Applicants are not required to be members of the UMC Technical Committee.

Krahenbuhl Testifies Before Congressional Committee, Advocates for Improvements to FEMA Communications

IAPMO, Pace to Publish UMC Chapter 17 as Standalone Document for Geothermal Energy Systems and Ambient Temperature Loops (ATL)

IAPMO® and the Pace Energy and Climate Center at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University (Pace) have agreed to jointly publish Chapter 17 of the Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC®) as a standalone document (IAPMO/UMC/Chapter 17-2024) to address the needs for enforceable safety provisions for geothermal district ambient temperature loop systems. Pace advised IAPMO on the development of this document.
