IAPMO (Z) (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials) New Standard BSR/IAPMO S1001.4-201x, Energy Production Rating of Solar Heating Collectors (new standard) This Standard specifies the procedures used to determine energy production ratings of solar heating collectors, which provide a basis for comparing the relative thermal performance of various solar collector technologies when evaluated under identical rating conditions. Ratings help users of solar heating products make an informed decision regarding the choice of collector with respect to thermal performance in a variety of end-use applications. IAPMO’s S1001 Solar Standards Technical Subcommittee members met in a collaborative and open process to develop this draft solar heating collector rating standard, which is completely transparent and allows the user to convert the results of test laboratory thermal efficiency tests to a single-day collector energy production rating. This standard, along with the accompanying IAPMO Solar Calculator, will allow manufacturers, distributors, architects, engineers, contractors, code authorities, program administrators and end-users to compare the energy production of tested solar heating collectors. The Castle Rock, Colorado, town council has approved the adoption of IAPMO’s Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC®) Appendix M — the Water Demand Calculator® — as an alternative methodology for sizing water pipes in single- and multifamily buildings. The Castle Rock Town Code has been amended to require the use of the Water Demand Calculator for sizing water service lines and internal plumbing supply lines.
