IAPMO Becomes Only Testing Lab and Certification Body in World to Receive NOM-012-CONAGUA-2021 Accreditation and Approval

Ontario, California — IAPMO Mexico and IAPMO R&T, the premier testing and certification agencies for the Mexican plumbing industry, are very pleased to announce they have achieved accreditation through entidad Mexicana de acreditación, A.C. (ema) and approval by CONAGUA to provide both testing and certification in Mexico to NOM-012-CONAGUA-2021, the nation’s mandatory national standard for valves and faucets. IAPMO Mexico and R&T are the only testing and certification bodies in the world with these accreditations and recognitions.

Manufacturers wishing to market their faucets, valves and fittings in Mexico can now submit them to IAPMO’s lab and certification personnel for testing and certification to the new standard.

Published Sept. 26, 2024, NOM-012-CONAGUA-2021 introduces new testing requirements for faucets, valves, and fittings related to drinking water. These products will be evaluated for low lead content, durability, performance, and ecological (water-saving) features. The standard applies to all such products that are manufactured, assembled, imported, or sold in Mexico and officially takes effect on Sept. 27.

The NOM-012-CONAGUA-2021 standard seeks to address water quality issues in Mexico in order to ensure greater availability of potable water via safer, more efficient plumbing systems.

“IAPMO is proud to lead the way as the first and only testing lab and certification body in Mexico accredited to perform the necessary work of ensuring the safety, sustainability, and performance of plumbing products in Mexico via the NOM-012-CONAGUA-2021 standard,” said Jose Madrigal, IAPMO R&T vice president of Continuous Compliance. “Our new accreditations and approvals empower manufacturers to meet the country's rigorous standards, ultimately contributing to better water quality and efficiency for communities across Mexico.”
