SOLAR THERMAL PRODUCT CERTIFICATION

IAPMO R&T has been certifying solar thermal products, both collectors and systems, since the technology enjoyed its first heyday in the mid-1970s. With the demand for solar certification skyrocketing once again amidst the global push for environmental sustainability, IAPMO R&T remains a manufacturer’s best ally in showing compliance to the required standards, both in the United States and Canada.

The ANSI-ANAB National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and Standards Council of Canada (SCC) accredit IAPMO R&T to certify these products to the requirements of a number of related codes and standards, including:

  • Uniform Solar, Hydronics and Geothermal Code® (USHGC)
  • CAN/CSA F378
  • CAN/CSA F379
  • ISO 9806
  • SRCC Standard 100
  • SRCC Standard 150
  • SRCC Standard 300
  • SRCC Standard 600

IAPMO R&T’s certification to the requirements of the Uniform Solar, Hydronics and Geothermal Code™ (USHGC™) is unique to the industry; no other accredited certification body offers such certification in addition to certification to national and international standards, and at no additional cost. The USHGC is published by IAPMO and adopted in many jurisdictions throughout the United States. This mark of conformity tells consumers and inspectors alike that the products bearing it meet all the standards and requirements essential for such products’ safe and reliable operation.

For speed to market, credibility in name, and mark of conformity, as well as a complete certification program for all applicable North American codes and standards recognized by Federal and State agencies, IAPMO R&T is the best choice for your solar heating products.

Testing Laboratories/Capabilities

IAPMO R&T accepts solar collector test reports from laboratories accredited by ILAC MRA signatories for the product standards applicable to the product submitted for certification. For a list of accepted signatories, please visit here.

To obtain certification, the test data submitted must be from an accredited laboratory that can provide evidence of current compliance to ISO/IEC 17025 with one or more of the following scopes:

  1. SRCC Standard 100: "Test Methods and Minimum Standards for Certifying Solar Collectors"
  2. SRCC Standard 150: "Test Methods and Minimum Standards for Certifying Innovative Solar Collectors"
  3. SRCC Standard 600: "Test Methods and Minimum Standards for Certifying Solar Concentrating Collectors"
  4. ISO Standard 9806: "Solar Energy - Solar thermal collectors - Test methods"

Uniform Solar, Hydronics and Geothermal Code

The Uniform Solar, Hydronics and Geothermal Code® (USHGC) is a model code developed by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials® (IAPMO) to govern the installation and inspection of solar energy, hydronic and radiant heat systems, and geothermal heating and cooling projects as a means of promoting the public's health, safety and welfare.
