2025 SD/IA CE Sizing and Code Violation Workshop
This workshop will allow participants to size water system piping (WSP), drain, waste and vent systems (DWV), and perform an analysis of drawings for code violations. Working in small groups, the first half of class will focus on sizing 2-WSP and 2-DWV drawings. With a whole class discussion on the code requirements for the sizing activities. With the remaining time the attendees will continue to work in groups to locate the code violations of 6-drawings. As a whole group, discuss the violations in detail hearing from each group’s spokesperson.

South Dakota PHCC and IAPMO are excited to partner again to provide another year of continuing education for plumbing contractors and journeymen in and around South Dakota that met the state requirements to maintain professional licensure.
The 2025 classes have been approved by the SD State Plumbing Commission to fulfill the required 4-hours of Continuing Education credit needed for license renewal.
REGISTRATION & PAYMENT INFORMATION
- Registration deadline is 2 days prior to the selected class date.
- Acceptable payment methods:

- For onsite registrations: Visa, MC, American Express, check, or money order*
IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION
- Pre-registration is encouraged; walk-in registrants will be accepted ONLY if space allows. Walk-in registrants should arrive no later than 5:30pm to allow the class to begin promptly at 6:00 pm.
- Certificates of attendance can be downloaded from your iapmolearn.org account within 45 days after your class completion.
- Classes are held from 6:00 pm to 9:45 pm. There will be scheduled breaks during each class session.
- Please bring a pen or pencil and your 2015 SD Plumbing Code Book to the class. Books will not be available for purchase at the class. They can be ordered from the State Plumbing Commission.
Inclement weather: Instructors will make every effort to conduct scheduled classes. However, if winter conditions prevent those who must drive long distances from attending, a class may have to be postponed. Be sure to listen to your local radio and TV stations for emergency weather announcements. The South Dakota PHCC will post class information on its web site,www.sdphcc.org and IAPMO will reach out to you via email. Attendees should exercise their own discretion and judgment in considering unsafe winter travel conditions.

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS
Dan Hartman is a knowledgeable instructor with a diverse plumbing background.
Dan has over 25 years of experience in the plumbing industry. He holds a Journeyman Plumber License in both South Dakota and Wyoming along with numerous mechanical certifications. Dan served on the South Dakota Plumbing Commission from 2003-2017 and has served on the SDAPHCC Board of Directors since March 2017. He has worked at Wolff’s Plumbing and Heating in Spearfish, SD since 1989. He currently works as the Residential and Service Division Manager where he oversees all aspects of residential construction, small commercial construction, the service department, and shop operations.
Dan’s teaching experience began in 2010. He was hired as a plumbing instructor for Western Dakota Technical Institute and held that position until 2015. Dan has been teaching the SDAPHCC Continuing Education courses since 2012. He also conducts all the training for Wolff’s Plumbing and Heating.
Tom Hines is an experienced instructor with several years of plumbing and speaking experience.
As a plumber, Tom has been in the industry for 40 years and holds a masters plumbing license in South Dakota and Iowa. He currently works as the General Manager for Frisbee Plumbing, Heating, AC and & Electrical in Sioux Falls, SD. He manages the Plumbing Division, supervises 155 employees, and oversees the day to day operations of all departments.
As a speaker, Tom has an extensive knowledge of the local and state plumbing codes. He has been teaching the SD Continuing Education Courses for the last 7 years and the Iowa Continuing Education Courses for the last 2 years. He has been the Emcee for the SDAPHCC annual banquets since 2005 and the Emcee for Frisbee’s events since 1985. Tom speaks at area high school career expos, and conducts training sessions for Frisbees.
Tom is also highly involved in the Plumbing and Construction industry. He has served on the SDAPHCC Board since 2005 and will become its President in 2019. He has served on the HBASE Board of Directors, Education Committee and Sioux Empire Care Foundation. Lastly, he has been on the Advisory Committees for the Sioux Falls Career Technical School, Minnesota West Technical School Plumbing Department, and Southeast Technical School Plumbing Department.
